Today, I just wanted to curl up and watch "Really Rosie" (based on a book by Maurice Sendak, and featuring little songs by Carol King), which I have been watching my whole my life, on VHS, more times than I can count, and which does not cease to make things a bit better. Wathcing it on VHS is important, too, because of this:
Of course, as is obvious now, you can find it all on the internet, but I went down in the basement and dug it out, and came to the conclusion that at present things were just about like this:
Oh my goodness, "Hop on the Caravan"! Brb, basking in nostalgia.
ReplyDeleteI figured you might have something to say about that...
ReplyDeleteIt's one of those things that is so familiar, and yet so WEIRD revisiting: the goofiness of the giant late-70s RV tootling around to happy music aside, I'm really struck by how compelling these little clips still are (and yes, of course, I went and looked up a bunch on Youtube). Most of that is due, I suspect, to that wonderful creepiness that pervades even the lightest of Maurice Sendak's art, but there's something about the jerkiness of the animation and the murky color palette (exacerbated by the aging VHS copy) makes the whole effect very striking.
ReplyDeleteKylie,
ReplyDeleteIf I assign you little topics to muse about, will you write me a blog?
Sincerely,
Krissy
P.S.
Agreed on all counts, obvs.
Maybe? Maybe we should have a team blog. Team Mystery Team Bloggers.
